The fifth season of Black Mirror is set to be released on Netflix sometime in December and will feature an interactive episode.

Fans have Black Mirror have been anxiously waiting to hear more about season 5. With season 4 of the series being nominated for multiple Emmys and even winning the Emmy for its episode “USS Callister,” the bar for the series has never been higher.

Details on season 5 have been scarce as Netflix is keeping it very secret for now. But, according to a report in Bloomberg, fans have a lot to look forward to. We also finally have a release date.

Season 5 is set to come out in December, which really isn’t too far away. This is in line with previous seasons, as season 4 came out late December 2017. A holiday season release seems to be in order once again. The show was in production this year and is still finishing up filming.

One interesting fact about the new season is that it will possibly feature a “choose your own adventure” episode. This episode will allow viewers to interact with the story and make important decisions for the protagonist, impacting the fate of the dystopian world and characters in that episode. This sounds intriguing and maybe a bit scary.

We don’t know if we want to have that power, and it might make the whole experience a little too real. Black Mirror deals with the dark side of technology, and some of the episodes have already hit pretty close to home such as “Nosedive,” where social status was based on social media rankings.

The Bloomberg story also notes that Netflix appears to be developing a variety of these interactive projects where fans get to choose the narrative. This is very interesting as this type of interaction definitely borderlines what we see in video games.
