The Plot

I’m sure there have been plenty of times in human history that a bunch of people have gone out to a remote house in the middle of the woods and not been violently murdered—but certainly not in the horror genre. The Davidson family reunion at their country vacation home goes from awkward sibling dramafest to a straight-up bloodbath, as masked killers in the woods around the house being trying to pick off the terrified family members one by one.

But as the situation deteriorates and the death count rises, it becomes clear that there’s much more to one of the guests in the house than initially meets the eye. Watching the family members try to outsmart the killers will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat, but it’s the petty bickering and familiar resentments between the highly competitive siblings which makes this movie a ton of bloody fun. There’s also a series of twists that keep this classic concept heart-pounding and unexpected.

The Breakdown

You’re Next manages to effortlessly bounce back and forth across the line between laugh-out-loud funny and genuinely nail-biting without ever diminishing the quality of either. The action is clever and stylish, and the suspense perfectly timed. Violent, bloody, and fast-paced, this movie will keep you engaged, excited, and yelling at your movie screen from start to finish.

The Scare-factor

The deaths are fairly horrific and the tension is as tight as a tripwire; You’re Next will hit hard if you’re susceptible to slashers, but otherwise is mostly an exciting, funny, surprising bloodbath that won’t keep you awake at night.
