Alyson Hannigan – Willow

Her place in the Buffy-verse: Long before witches were a part of our shared popular TV lore, Alyson Hannigan played an unsure, mildly awkward Wiccan who became one of the most powerful forces in the gang — and on TV in general. Hannigan played Buffy’s best friend, Willow, whose character evolved into an integral part of the weekly effort to save the world.

Willow may have started out as the wallflower sidekick, but a few tragedies, lots of reading in her Wiccan ways, and unwavering support from her friends turned her into a confident and powerful force for the good of mankind.

Her post-Buffy career: Later generations of pop culture consumers recognize Hannigan as Michelle Flaherty from the American Pie movies and even more so as Lily Aldrin from the hit show, How I Met Your Mother. Thanks to reruns, syndication, and streaming, she’ll probably always be Lily the artist-turned-kindergarten-teacher-turned-businesswoman first. But for fans of the Buffy franchise, she’ll forever be Willow, the witch who saved us from evil every week.

Where she is now? Most notably, Hannigan will play Dr. Ann Possible in the live-action version of the Disney series Kim Possible. She’s also a regular on the Adult Swim show Robot Chicken. She’s also lent her talents to several TV movies since her time on HIMYM, playing quirky, love-lorn heroines just trying to find someone perfect.
