Angela Bassett as Storm

Let’s go back to the time before Marvel Studios, and before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was set up. In the early 2000s, it wasn’t the Avengers who were the big crime-fighting group taking over movie theaters, it was the X-Men. And before Marvel Studios came knocking Angela Bassett’s door for Black Panther, it was Fox with an offer for the X-Men.

It turns out that before Halle Berry was cast in the role, Angela Bassett was considered. She had been thought of for the role of Storm since 1995, but she ended up walking away from the role when it turned out Storm was going to be presented as a weaker, background character. We don’t blame Bassett for this choice.

To be honest, we are glad she didn’t get the role as Storm in the movie world because for a great acting talent like herself, that role wouldn’t have done her justice. Also, we got to see Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther. Bassett had confirmed early on that her character, as well as her daughter Shuri, survived the snap at the end of Infinity War. Bassett is such a talented actress, and while she did play a minor role in Black Panther, we are glad she is part of the cast — and we can’t wait to see her in Black Panther 2.
