How to Get Away with Murder has the luxury of following up the Grey’s Anatomy season 15 premiere with its own first episode of the season.
Hello, How to Get Away with Murder. Viola Davis’ thing she does when she’s not starring in great-looking movies like Widows is back for its fifth season, and its premiere will come after two whole hours of Grey’s Anatomy for fans of all things Shonda Rhimes.
The show is coming off a passable, if not mind-blowing, fourth season that managed to do some decent work. Either way, here’s hoping that season 5 will show an improvement, hopefully thanks to some fresh blood.
The synopsis for “Your Funeral,” the one-hour premiere episode, is as follows, according to ABC:
"Annalise selects students for her new legal clinic at Middleton and juggles job offers from competing firms, all while the Keating 4 attempt to move on from last semester’s turmoil. And in a startling flash-forward, a new mystery is introduced and it shakes things up for everyone."
Does this new mystery have to do with the gentleman who’s played by Rome Flynn and has the name of Gabriel Maddox, which is not at all suspicious? Would he be introduced at the very end of the season 4 finale if he didn’t have something to do with all of this? For all this show’s faults, it does really like to have secret children all over the place.
Of course, we also don’t expect all of it to get unveiled in the premiere. One huge bombshell will do, thank you very much, and it’s probably going to be in the form of the flash-forward. How tight will the timeline be? What kind of crime will be committed if it’s not murder? (It’s probably going to be murder.)
Honestly, we’re just happy that Davis is back. Everything else is secondary.
