Game of Thrones fans can actually visit Westeros (or the sets, at least)

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you could get your chance to visit Westeros as HBO is turning iconic filming locations into tourist attractions.

Fans of fantasy worlds such as Middle-Earth and Westeros often imagine what it would be like to visit these places if they existed. But, let’s be honest, Westeros especially probably wouldn’t be a great place to visit. What with war, twisted rulers, and dragons, you’d probably not enjoy your time there too much. Luckily, HBO is making it possible for fans of the series to visit their favorite parts of the Seven Kingdoms without the drawbacks of the actual place. HBO is turning sets from the show into tourist sites that fans are going to love to visit.

According to a press release with Tourism IN, the network said that in 2019 some of the most famous locations in Northern Ireland will be turned into an attraction that is “on a scale and scope bigger than anything the public has ever seen.” These sites will feature the sets as well as costume and prop displays as well as digital content and interactive materials.

There have been multiple locations used in Northern Ireland for Game of Thrones. For now, HBO is planning to turn sets for Winterfell, Castle Black, and King’s Landing into these attractions.

We can’t wait to see what these attractions and think it is a brilliant idea. Some areas in New Zealand, such as the Hobbiton filming location, have had a lot of successful tourism from fans. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios has also been an immersive experience that fans love. But, this Game of Thrones idea is taking things one step further, and we think it is brilliant. We can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
