Dancing with the Stars season 27 premiere live stream: Watch online
The 27th season of Dancing with the Stars kicks off tonight, with everything from salsas to jives promised from this season’s celebrities.
Season 27 of Dancing with the Stars is not taking it easy on its cast. Not only is it a two-night premiere — with both nights requiring a dance from these newbies, and the first couple going home Tuesday night — but the dance styles aren’t starting at basic levels. Instead, this cast will have to contend with some dances that even top dancers of seasons past have struggled with.
Will that result in lower scores overall, or will it instead cause some stars to rise to the challenge and prove that they earned their spot on the show? Only tonight’s live show will tell.
ABC has published the expected routines and styles for each couple during tonight’s show.
Cha cha
"DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold: “Sweet Sensation,” Flo RidaMary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber: “Treasure,” Bruno MarsMilo Manheim and Witney Carson: “Free Free Free,” Pitbull featuring Theron Theron"
Frankly, Mary Lou Retton probably has the best song of the bunch, and she and fellow former athlete DeMarcus Ware will square off early. But we said that Witney Carson is a strong partner, and we weren’t lying. Milo Manheim could surprise.
Foxtrot
"Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev: “Rise Up,” Andra DayEvanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe: “Do You Believe in Magic,” Aly & AJJohn Schneider and Emma Slater: “Good Ol’ Boys from Dukes of Hazzard,” Waylon Jennings"
Not only are the Harry Potter puns starting early for Evanna Lynch, but we definitely called that John Schneider would get the Dukes of Hazzard theme song basically immediately. The two basically-obvious shout-outs may cancel each other out and leave Danelle Umstead to shine with an Andra Day song.
Jive
"Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten: “Good Golly Miss Molly,” Little RichardBobby Bones and Sharna Burgess: “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” Travis TrittTinashe and Brandon Armstrong: “I’m a Lady,” Meghan Trainor"
“Good Golly Miss Molly” is the most obvious jive song here, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best. Depending on the arrangement, either of the other two tunes could end up paying off for their respective celebrities.
Quickstep
"Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson: “Fish Out of Water,” Leo SoulNancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy: “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” Club Des Belugas"
See above about obvious puns possibly backfiring, and apply that to Joe Amabile’s song for tonight’s quickstep.
Salsa
"Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke: “Dinero” by Jennifer Lopez feat. DJ Khaled & Cardi BNikki Glaser and Gleb Savchenko: “YES” by Louisa feat. 2 Chainz"
Salsa’s probably the most interesting category on tonight’s episode, and not just because it involves “Dinero” and Gleb Savchenko (though not together, more’s the pity).
