New Daredevil Season 3 poster offers fans a big MCU Easter egg

Daredevil season 3 is on the horizon, which means teasers, posters, and first looks galore. This also means we know to expect darkness and an Easter egg.

With the third season of Daredevil on its way, Marvel and Netflix have decided to offer up some first look treats for fans to get them ready for the return of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Not only did we get a new poster for the series, but we also got a teaser video, and new pictures.

As we determined from the first poster released, darkness is coming, and clearly Matt Murdock/Daredevil is planning to embrace it. Even in the teaser itself, Murdock makes it clear that, “You can suffocate evil, starve it, lock it behind bars, but it will find a way to come back even stronger.” And that means the only solution is to “let the Devil out.”

And it seems the Devil is going to be out in a big way. After nearly being killed at the end of The Defenders, and seeing his world fall apart, it makes sense that Daredevil is a changed man. He is prepared to embrace evil, take on the darkness, and work towards defeating it all, even if that means losing himself in the process.

However, perhaps the most interesting tease comes from the poster that was also released. Not only is the entire world bathed in red, but we see Daredevil spread out into a cross shape. This once more reinforces the idea of religion playing a major part in the season.

Of course, that is not all we get from the poster. Thanks to the eagle eyes of Screen Rant, you can see the shape of Avengers tower actually appears in the distance of the poster. It is a giant MCU Easter egg that might mean nothing, or it could be a way to remind the world that our street-level heroes are still a part of the overall MCU, even if they don’t interact with each other on screen.

Considering characters like Luke Cage have been a part of the Avengers in the comics, even getting an obscured glimpse at Avengers tower is exciting. Whether it plays a role in Daredevil‘s third season remains to be seen, of course, but we can certainly hope so.

And perhaps last, but certainly not least, we also got to see some first look photos from the season thanks to Entertainment Weekly. From Daredevil sitting atop a church (based on the fact he is perched next to a cross) to sitting down for what looks to be rather uncomfortable drinks with Foggy Nelson, it looks like things are not settling down in the least for Matt Murdock.

He might be back from the dead, but that doesn’t mean things are any better for him. Instead, with darkness coming and his life essentially destroyed (he was presumed dead after all), things are definitely not all good in the world of Daredevil.

In fact, according to Erik Oleson, the new showrunner of the series, “Matt starts the season broken physically, broken emotionally, and broken spiritually.” And we can’t imagine it will be easy to turn things around, especially considering the showrunner has revealed that, “When he realizes that he’s incapable of being Daredevil, he would rather just end it than go forward in his life without abilities.”

Perhaps the purpose of including the Avengers tower was about hope for the future, even as the tower is no longer the headquarter for the Avengers. If the darkness is really about to take on the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, then at least having that reminder that there are more heroes out there ready to save the world is a way to see past the upcoming pain and evil.
