Seinfeld

A show about literally nothing has become one of the most beloved comedies of all time. Seinfeld is a show that you can turn on at any given point and watch without needing context, which may be the best structure for a comedy. It follows the lives of Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer as they live in New York City.

When we say that the show is about nothing, we mean that literally. There isn’t really an overarching plot. It’s just their lives on a day-to-day basis. Even the finale of the show is just like any other episode, with everyone sitting at the restaurant where Elaine orders her big salad.

With shows that are so complex and connected, we miss the ease that Seinfeld brought to television. You don’t have to sit down and know everything about these characters. There isn’t a need for any kind of “last time on Seinfeld” recap. You just tune in and laugh within minutes. They feel like our friends, and you’ll end up caring about the sometimes-mundane, sometimes-wild world that they inhabit.

Of course, all the stars of Seinfeld have gone on to bigger and better things since the show ended, but another season with them wouldn’t hurt. We need a little bit of nothing comedy, and Jerry Seinfeld and his friends are just the people to give it to us.
