8. Hoovering

A very recent addition to the podcast landscape, Jessica Fostekew’s Hoovering is a great little podcast all about a topic that we all love — eating. Each week, Jess invites a guest on to discuss eating habits, their relationship to food, eating disorders, favorite desserts and memorable meals. All whilst the two sit down for some home cooked food. Yum.

We all have different attitudes to food, and these can be really conflicting at times. Hoovering acknowledges these difficult intersections and a lot of the episodes contain sincere and authentic discussions about how we approach food. Jess herself has suffered from an eating disorder, and is very upfront about this throughout. Not only has Hoovering hosted dietitians and professional chefs, but also familiar voices like MP Jess Phillips, Desiree Burch and Cariad Lloyd.

There are plenty of episodes which discuss the dynamics of being a woman in line with disordered eating and our relationships to food. Food can so often be an area with a lot of stigma attached to it, but Hoovering takes a light-hearted approach whilst also breaking down those taboos.

Jess is not just a fantastic host, you may also recognize her voice from regularly co-hosting The Guilty Feminist, her excellent stand-up and for appearing in BBC Three’s Motherland.

Tip: definitely one to listen to whilst you are eating. Otherwise, you’ll be very hungry by the end.
