9. Nerdette

Starting from independent roots way back in 2013, Nerdette has worked it’s way up into the big leagues. Currently part of the WBEZ family, the podcast’s tagline is “it’s not what you love, it’s how much you love it” and this perfectly encapsulates the passion that hosts Greta Johnson and Tricia Bobeda have for what they do.

Greta and Tricia spend each episode talking to creators about what they do and why they do it. Guests of the show have included Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, Roxanne Gay, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and astronaut Chris Hadfield. As you can tell from that list alone — Nerdette has a wide reach and covers so many different topics that there will certainly be an episode that feels tailor-made for you.

Nerdette is an amazing educational space within the internet, whilst also nerding out hard. Of course, the name Nerdette is a reference to the fact that women can be (and are) nerdy too. For so long, women have been barred from nerd/geek spaces because society’s perception is that women just aren’t interested in those types of things. Wrong, wrong and wrong again.

Greta and Tricia have paved the way for out-and-proud nerds on the internet, and it certainly isn’t going there any time soon.
