“Pynk” – Janelle Monáe

The visuals for Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer album have all been perfect, so we had to include one more video from her.

As usual, Janelle’s hair and makeup are flawless the entire time, but it’s her interesting fashion choices that leave us in awe. The most in your face look in the video is when Janelle and her dancers are all wearing pink pants that look like vaginas. That’s right, vagina pants! They have ruffled legs to resemble the curves of a woman’s genitals, and at one point, Tessa Thompson pops her head between her legs. Don’t you love feminist symbolism disguised as high fashion?

The video is full of powerful statements about feminism. At one point, Janelle and her dancers wear panties that say things like “I grab back” and “great cosmic mother.” Janelle has said that the song is “a celebration of creation, self love, sexuality and p—-y power,” so all the symbolism throughout the video makes perfect sense. Being the genius that she is, it doesn’t surprise us that she used fashion to help further this message.

Janelle rocks every item of clothing she wears in the video, even when it’s just a simple tank top and boxer shorts. She has that aura about her that makes everything she does come off as a masterpiece. Maybe it’s her confidence, maybe it’s her beauty, but we think it’s because she is a creative genius.
