2001 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The dawning of the era of Harry Potter era started and we were obsessed with this boy with floppy hair and a lightning bolt on his forehead. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone came out and all the kids finally found themselves a home in Hogwarts.

While the books were popular beforehand, it was the creation of the film series that truly blew Harry Potter into the mainstream. With “Hedwig’s Theme” and a series of moments that forever created the ‘look’ of the Harry Potter world, we were hooked.

Harry Potter is a boy wizard who almost died when Voldemort tried to kill him. He stopped Voldemort’s evil reign as an infant and, when he finds out that he is a wizard, he gets to go home to Hogwarts and be the wizard he was destined to be.

There is so much about the Harry Potter series that is amazing but that first movie really changed the world. We had the wizarding world at our fingertips and we could live in the knowledge that Hogwarts was real, there, and ready for us to come home whenever we needed to.

The entire decade of Harry Potter movies dominated the box office and for good reason. They’re amazing.
