Avengers: Infinity War’s first take on Thanos will scar Loki fans (again)

Loki enthusiasts still getting over the events of Avengers: Infinity War might not enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at Thanos.

It’s not easy to be a fan of Loki these days. Even with the golden Funko Pop! coming out later this month, it seems his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and his time being portrayed by Tom Hiddleston) has come to a close. But we still have the good times, even when behind the scenes looks at Avengers: Infinity War show that Loki’s death was very much always a part of the story.

MCU News and Tweets posted the short video, in which Thanos is seated on a throne and starts talking to Loki. Understandably, fans have replied to the tweet by calling it “disgusting” and even pulling out a GIF of T’Challa (who’s also currently not in a good spot in the MCU, which makes it doubly painful) telling the account to “delete that footage.” There’s even a tweet featuring Thor with some tears edited in.

The tweet also claims that this was pre-Infinity War‘s principal photography. As Thanos talks pretty explicitly about the method of killing Loki, that lines up with Tom Hiddleston’s saying that he spent a lot of time with the knowledge of Loki’s Infinity War death.

Granted, Josh Brolin isn’t delivering actual lines from the film itself, but the words he is saying are full of different sounds, meaning that the animators had quite the test — particularly when Thanos stops and repeats himself towards the end. Check out the facial expression before he says “It’s just the way it is.” That drawing back of the lips in not quite a smile and not quite a grimace is not easy to pull off, and yet it looks pretty good here.
