Did Mark Hamill insinuate that Mara Jade could be part of the Star Wars movies?

It seems as if the Star Wars movies aren’t including Mara Jade, but maybe Mark Hamill knows something we don’t about Luke and Mara’s love.

Mark Hamill is known for a bit of trolling, but did he just troll us all… or could Mara Jade really be making an appearance in the Star Wars franchise? While she is a part of the Legends canon, she has yet to make an appearance in the films despite rumors that Episode IX may bring her back.

A strong Jedi, Mara ends up falling in love with Luke Skywalker and they have a son, Ben, together. From what we saw of Luke in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, it didn’t seem as if the Mara Jade storyline was going to be a part of the series.

But then Chris Bennett on Twiter decided to ask Mark Hamill about Luke’s love life.

Mark’s response prompted not only fans to begin speculating about a young Luke Skywalker movie (young as in anywhere between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens), but also for everyone to remember Mara Jade.

She’s not really a character many think about because she’s not in the canon anymore. When The Force Awakens came out, the Extended Universe lost its canon status, with Mara Jade included in the purge.

With Mark’s tweet, we obviously want to know if there is some kind of truth behind it. If Luke was truly a traditional Jedi, he wouldn’t find love, but obviously, with the knowledge that Mara exists in the EU, he doesn’t follow the Jedi rules quite so strictly.

We’ll have to wait and see if we get a stand-alone Luke Skywalker to know for sure, but we’d love to see a live-action Mara Jade.
