25 of the most buzzworthy new shows for Fall 2018

The InBetween – NBC
What you’re watching: This is a procedural crime-of-the-week crimes show with a medium as the main character. Cassie Bishop (Harriet Dyer) has the gift of seeing dead people, and she also just so happens to be best buds with a police detective, who is friends with a former FBI Agent.
All this convenient friendship leads to an arrangement in which Cassie uses her powers to help solve some of the city’s most puzzling and heinous crimes. Although she feigns reluctance at first, helping the police is a way for her to keep her “demons at bay.”
What it reminds you of: This is just Ghost Whisperer with a blonde lead. Throw in a little Medium, and you’ve seen this show over and over. Maybe NBC thinks we forgot these shows already existed and wore out their welcome with too many seasons. Couple this psychic/medium gimmick with the murder-of-the-week formula, and this show will be retreading old waters.
Long-term potential: If this show was on CBS, we’d be more optimistic, but we don’t see it going the distance. The premise is already tired and worn out, and they haven’t even aired the first episode. I’m going to give it a go, of course, because I don’t like missing out. But I have my doubts it will stick around.
