Bed, Bath & Beyond (Season 4, Episode 7)

Overall, Will & Grace is usually a hilarious, slapstick comedy, but sometimes it gets serious. In this season four episode, Grace is coping with her broken heart after her boyfriend Nathan (Woody Harrelson) rejects her wedding proposal and breaks up with her.

Grace stayed in bed for days after the breakup, and Will has tried everything to cheer her up. He warns Jack and Karen not to go into her room — because obviously, they would only make things worse — but they do it anyway, because they’re Jack and Karen. Jack decides to sing her a song to cheer her up, but it turns out the song “One Less Bell to Answer” was a depressing choice and only makes it worse.

Karen doesn’t fare any better. She decides to roleplay with Grace, where she plays Nathan and Grace plays herself, to discover where it all went wrong. But when her and Karen passionately make out, it gets a little awkward and Karen leaves.

Grace does eventually get out of bed to join her friends, but when she hears a phone message from a travel agent for Nathan and a new woman named Suzie, she spirals back into her depression and gets into bed. Eventually, Will decides to take matters into his own hands, and he gets Karen and Jack to help him drag Grace (fully clothed) into the shower.

Grace fights it, and when she’s freed from their grasp, she makes all her friends just as depressed as she is. Grace, now soaking wet, crawls back into bed, and Will, Jack, and Karen all join her for a cuddle. It’s probably one of the most heartwarming episodes of the series, because it shows that, all jokes aside, these friends really love and care for each other, even Jack and Karen.
