I Never Promised You an Olive Garden (Season 2, Episode 9)

Rob and Ellen are frequent guest stars on Will & Grace and close friends with the duo. They’ve all known each other since college, where Will was friends with Rob and Ellen was friends with Grace. But over the years, their differences have only become more obvious, especially when it comes to their lifestyles.

Rob and Ellen have been together for years, and have gotten boring and stuck in a routine. When Will and Grace bring them to a hip new Asian restaurant, the two of them don’t like the weird food, or the strange people they’re being forced to sit with. They’d much rather be at the Olive Garden, and Will and Grace aren’t impressed.

During the dinner, Will and Grace befriend Kai and Naomi, a hip couple who are more on their level than Rob and Ellen. The couple invites them out to a cool underground club and they never had more fun. They later invite them to an Elvis Costello concert, but they already have plans to go to the Olive Garden with Rob and Ellen, so they lie and say Will is sick.

You already know this is going to blow up in their faces. As they’re getting ready to have the time of their life with their hip new friends, their old friends come by to check on Will. This leads to a wacky series of events where they try to hide their new friends from the old friends, while Will acts sick and Grace has to keep everyone from running into each other.

In the end, they realize Kai and Naomi’s lifestyle might be a little too fast-paced for them, and they apologize to Rob and Ellen, over dinner at the Olive Garden.
