Homo For The Holidays (Season 2, Episode 7)

Jack may seem like the most confident, proud gay man in the world, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still struggle with his sexuality. In this season two episode of Will & Grace, we find out that Jack may be shamelessly homosexual, but his own mother doesn’t know he’s gay.

Will invites Jack’s mother Judith for Thanksgiving dinner as a surprise, but Jack isn’t happy. That’s when the gang find out the shocking news, that Judith somehow doesn’t know that Jack is gay after all these years. In fact, not only was he lying about his sexuality, but he also told his mother he was dating Grace for years. Everyone agrees that it’s time for Jack to finally come out to her, but Karen is too busy being bitter than she wasn’t Jack’s fake girlfriend.

Jack is a nervous wreck when his mother comes over for dinner, and to make matters worse, Karen tells Judith that she was having an affair with Jack the entire time he was with Grace. Not exactly helping the whole “coming out” thing. Jack does eventually put an end to the madness and comes out, and his mom is surprised but not necessarily shocked.

Judith, though, has her own secret that she’s been keeping from Jack: his father isn’t his biological father, she slept with someone else. Jack spends years trying to find his real father, and when he finally does, it’s too late.

This episode was touching because it showed the interesting dynamic between Jack and his mother, and it shows us that you never know what’s going on behind the scenes. Jack seems like the last person in the world who would be in the closet, and yet, he still was.
