Damon and Elena – The Vampire Diaries

Their love story: To boil it down to the most basic of summaries, these two got together because Elena was doing Damon’s brother, Stephan. Nina Dobrev played Elena as a hapless damsel-in-distress, so Ian Somerholder’s tough guy Damon had no choice but to swoop in and save the day. Even if that meant stealing her away from his too-earnest brother. You can @ me all you want, but Elena was the worst on this series and deserved neither Salvatore brother.

All the folks in Mystic Falls had to fight off some supernatural villain at one time or another, so Elena and Damon’s relationship was born out of survival, necessity, and those insanely blue eyes of his. She spent too long trying to deny their attraction, even when it was in her blood, and left poor Damon on the hook longer than any right-minded person would.

Did they or didn’t they: Because the world of vampires and other monsters is relatively small and pre-ordained, Elena and Damon inevitably got together. All that pining and over-thinking led to she and Damon having a long life together. Their end, as well as everyone else’s on the show, involved some sort of crossing over and attainment of “peace” about all the mayhem they endured, and caused, in their very short time together.

Where to watch it unfold: It takes eight seasons to finally get the Delena payoff. This is not a show you can binge in one weekend, but you can certainly start now. Find it on Netflix, if you need to waste a solid two weeks of your life.
