Ross and Rachel – Friends

Their love story: These two make up one of the most iconic duos in all of television. Despite how we feel about Ross and his awfulness, we can’t deny they gobbled up most of our mid-’90s ‘shipping energies. David Schwimmer and Jennifer Anniston will probably never be able to outlive this love story, no matter how many indie movies or true-crime series they do.

For those of you unfamiliar with their story, I’ll recap it here. They were friends, then in a relationship, then they broke up over something that could easily have been solved with a series of honest conversations. After that breakup, they spent the next few seasons torturing fans with the angst only found with two people who love each other but don’t realize they should be together.

Did they or didn’t they: These two did everything out of traditional order. They were friends first, of course. They got married in a drunken, platonic outburst in Vegas. Then they spent too many episodes being jealous of the other’s love life, and then Rachel turns up pregnant. Audiences knew they needed to be together (mostly because no one else could stand them) but they resisted all the way until the very last episodes. There was a very rom-com-y airport scene and then a big reveal and that was that for Ross and Rachel.

How to watch it unfold: HBO Max is your big Friends source and you can watch these two love, hate, yell, tease and then live happily ever after right there.
