Niles and Daphne – Frasier

Their love story: If you’re anything like me, you can’t resist star-crossed lovers, or folks trying to make it work from opposite sides of the (proverbial) tracks. Niles Crane, played delicately and with under-appreciation by David Hyde Pierce, is the tender, younger brother to Frasier Crane. Niles is a successful psychiatrist with fancy tastes, but he falls in love with his father’s in-home care aid, Daphne.

Daphne isn’t about all the bougie posturing of the Crane brothers, but Niles nevertheless falls in love with her. In fact, Niles is married when he first realizes his feelings for Daphne. He’s obviously in love with her, but he keeps it appropriate and only loves her from afar. Once he divorces, he must watch Daphne date and get engaged. His tender little heart can barely take it, and his love-sick antics are a running joke through most of the seasons.

Did they or didn’t they: Oh yea… All those years of Niles’ secretly crushing really paid off. They got married and had a baby, and they pretty much lived happily ever after (at least until this show is rebooted and we need more dramatic tension). Although I am forever the optimist, there were times when I wasn’t sure that the writers over at Frasier would actually bring this couple together. Too many laughs and gags were had at Niles’ expense, as he painfully watched Daphne get into and then out of one doomed relationship after the next. They really earned their closure and a happy ending.

How to watch it unfold: Frasier enjoyed 11 seasons, in total, and it took just about that long to get these two together. If you’ve got the time and want to, you can watch every single one of the 264 episodes on Hulu.
