20. Assassin’s Creed II
Developed by Ubisoft, Assasin’s Creed II received critical acclaim for gameplay, setting, character development and more, including its improvements from the first game. It’s credited for really making the franchise popular — and it’s one of the best games of the modern era. Featuring historical figures and settings, a more complex fighting system, and more variety in game missions, this second game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is a must-play.
The game follows the story of an ongoing battle between Assassins and Knights Templar. You’ll play as modern day Desmond Miles as he explores the history of his genetic ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Most of the story takes place in Italy during the Renaissance, as Ezio tries to find those responsible for betraying his family.
Using a third-person perspective and an open world environment, players can explore Italy freely. Combat is primarily focused on stealth mechanics and is much more complex than the first game. A variety of weapons can be found, bought, or crafted including swords, maces, hidden blades, throwing knives, and more.
Additionally, players can acquire new armor for Ezio or even dye his clothing. If players have a PSP with Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and pair it with the PS3, six additional weapons can be unlocked.
