6. Pokémon Red/Blue/Green

Originally released in Japan as Pokémon Red and Green, and later in North America as Red and Blue, the 1997 classic set the stage for future Pokémonpo games. Considered one of the best selling RPGs of all time, Pokémon Red/Blue/Green featured the same story but each game had unique Pokémon only available in that game. Utilizing the multiplayer capabilities that allowed players to trade and battle Pokémon, players could eventually collect all of the available Pokémon and complete their Pokedex. The innovative battle system was the main feature praised by critics and more than made up for the less innovative audio or graphics.

Players will travel around the world collecting small creatures called Pokémon, and use them to battle various NPCs. The main goal is to go to Pokémon Gyms and defeat the leader there to obtain a gym badge. When you have gotten all the badges, you’re then allowed to battle the Elite Four in order to become the best in the world. An additional goal is to complete your Pokedex, a digital encyclopedia that contains info on every single Pokémon. In addition to your standard opponents, there’s also your childhood rival that you have to beat multiple times and an evil group of Pokémon thieves called Team Rocket.
