Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger: Will saving Ivan Hess help?

Cloak and Dagger saved Ivan Hess, the only survivor of the rig explosion, from the time loop in his mind. So how might this help their cause?

In this week’s episode of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, we finally saw Tandy and Tyrone use their powers together. And surprisingly, not in a volatile way!

Tandy and Tyrone used their powers to enter the mind of Ivan Hess, the sole survivor of the Roxxon rig explosion. Somehow, using the power of love, they saved Ivan from his own torturous loop, bringing him out of his catatonic state.

This is huge news. Ivan Hess can help clear Tandy’s father’s name and hopefully get her family back on solid ground.

But there are so many “what ifs” amidst the positivity.

Firstly, Ivan Hess has been catatonic for over seven years. How does that affect his brain? We saw the effects of that loop on both him and Tandy — and it really took its toll on her after only, what, ten minutes stuck there?

Her memories came back once they were out of the loop, but Ivan’s been stuck in it for much longer. Reliving that kind of trauma hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of times won’t be easy to overcome.

Second — and probably more important — will Roxxon actually let Ivan Hess speak? We’ve already seen the lengths the corporation will go to keep things under wraps. Having the sole survivor come out of a catatonic state, memories intact, will raise all sorts of red flags.

It might be smart if Tandy or Tyrone stays with him for protection, because you know Roxxon will come after him with a vengeance. But will it be through murder, like Tandy’s mom’s boyfriend, or will it be through blackmail?

When you’re up against a faceless, evil corporation, so many things can go wrong before they go right. Tandy and Tyrone need to keep that in mind as Cloak and Dagger heads into the back half of its first season.
