Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger gives us a look at Tandy and Tyrone finally teaming up to find out what’s really going on in Ivan Hess’ mind.

This week’s Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger holds a lot of emotional weight and a lot of frustration. Plus, Tandy and Tyrone finally use their powers together!

Not-So-Short Summary and Analysis

This episode starts us in the past with Ivan Hess’ fateful day on that oil rig. Everything is just as normal as any other day, like nothing will change. It’s bittersweet.

Tandy convinces Tyrone to use their powers together to get into Ivan Hess’ mind and get her through that mysterious door from last week. Their arrival surprises and delights the heck out of Ivan.

MARVEL’S CLOAK & DAGGER – “Lotus Eaters” – This episode of “MarvelÕs Cloak & Dagger” airs Thursday, July 12 (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. EDT) on Freeform. (Freeform/Alfonso Bresciani)

His mind is something else. Trapped in the rig, he’s made his own baseball game, knows the exact timing of the explosion, and knows how to stop it. Except that it’s impossible to make it to the core room to shut everything off. It keeps going and going. And going. And going.

All of the workers on the rig have also gone crazy, more zombies than anything. But it gives us our first excellent fight scene with both Cloak and Dagger using their powers.

The power they’ve tapped into seems to infect the minds of everyone who takes it in. It infects them with… well, sheer malice and darkness. Sounds a lot like Tyrone’s powers.

The angry man who calls Ivan’s desk every time around? Tandy’s father.

It completely sidelines her. Tyrone tries to do the heavy lifting himself in the core room, but it doesn’t work. He even leaves the mind world for a few seconds and when he goes back in to bring Tandy out, she’s already as forgetful as Ivan.

They turn to blows, light daggers thrown into shadows. Tyrone finally snaps her out of it when he makes her ask something Ivan wouldn’t know: Who’s in the backseat of his car?

It also helps her snap Ivan out of his loop and remember Mina to get him out of there.

We end the episode on a touching moment between Tandy and Tyrone, Tyrone calling her out of the blue. They both listen to a recording of Billy.

Badass Moment of the Week

While that first fight scene with Cloak and Dagger was exciting, the one that takes this week’s title is when they’re taking Ivan down to the core room.

“You are into some messed-up shit,” Tyrone tells Tandy at the start of the episode.

I completely understand Tandy’s desire to want to stay in Ivan Hess’ mind and talk to her dad. Anyone who has lost a loved one knows that exact desire to want another thirty seconds just to hear their voice. Talk to them. Which is why I wonder why Tyrone doesn’t have a little more empathy towards her right from the start.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, as they are dealing with mindless zombies, a time loop, and a dangerous explosion.
