Jessie and Emily – Toy Story 2

With over 20 years of filmmaking, Pixar has given us plenty of moments that have made us cry, and while Toy Story and A Bug’s Life had moments that made us tear up, it was Toy Story 2 that brought on the very first Pixar-fueled sobs.

Anyone who has seen the movie will never forget this moment. Backed by the voice of Sarah McLachlan singing “When She Loved Me,” viewers are taken through a montage of Jessie’s years with her previous owner, Emily. We finally get to see what Jessie’s life was like and how she ended up in the hands of Al, the no-good toy salesman, who is trying to sell Woody, Jessie, Bullseye, and Prospector Pete for a high price to a vintage toy collector.

For kids, watching this scene and thinking about one day giving up their beloved toys may seem ridiculous, as they could never imagine doing so. But as adults, we can all remember a toy or toy that we loved most, and now, we have no clue where it may be.

With Toy Story, Pixar gave life to something lifeless, leading to us all crying over fictional plastic figurines — good work, Pixar Animation Studios.
