Anton Ego’s favorite ratatouille – Ratatouille
Have you ever had a smell or a taste suddenly trigger a memory? Well, the food critic in Pixar’s Ratatouille, Anton Ego, definitely has done so. This particular moment exemplifies the main plot line of the film in a matter of minutes, as the chef takes instructions from Rémy the rat in the kitchen in order to make the perfect dish of ratatouille to impress Ego.
The sight of rats swarming a kitchen, especially that of a high-end French restaurant, would normally be terror-inducing. In an animated film, though, it is nothing but hilarious, and a rat making critically-approved food for a five-star restaurant is absolutely adorable.
Seeing Ego’s reaction to the one bite of ratatouille that he takes is thrilling (and more than a little touching) as he remembers the ratatouille that his mother made for him as a young boy. There is no better way to a person’s heart than through nostalgia, and this little rat completely cracks the code.
After watching this scene, every chef probably wished they had a food-savvy rat to run their kitchen and earn them a five-star review from a notable and very picky food critic in a highly respected publication.
