A new poster for The Walking Dead previews an ominous setting for the show’s next season while raising plenty of questions.

AMC has given us an artistic preview for The Walking Dead season 9 with a 2018 San Diego Comic-Con poster featuring Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes working a cropped haircut, plus Daryl Dixon, Michonne, Carol, and Maggie (no baby bump, still).

There is plenty we can speculate from this poster and what it could mean for the next season of The Walking Dead.

New location

In the background of the poster, we see what looks like a destroyed United States Capitol building. Could our survivors be headed for Washington, D.C.? We recently learned that season 9 will be focused on rebuilding society, and heading to D.C. could be a huge part of that.

And perhaps Georgie could be a motivating force to going there. Maggie met with her in season 8, and was gifted a starter guide to getting back to how things were. That alone has fans predicting she’s related to the Commonwealth, a huge and bustling community from the comics’ storyline.

That helicopter

This could be the same mysterious helicopter that was flying around during season 8, and that Jadis was trying to clock and wave down.

In April, Pollyanna McIntosh who plays Jadis spoke at Walker Stalker Con Chicago about the helicopters, relaying that they’re “definitely coming from a place we have not seen yet…  Safety would be cool. But it could also be bad guys.”

The helicopter paired with a D.C. background offers hope that we’ll see fully developed communities. However, with any community on this show, there is always the potential for dangerous new adversaries.

Maggie’s baby

In the poster, Maggie doesn’t appear to have grown much of a baby bump. Many have called out the confusing timeline of her pregnancy. Arguably, she is only a few months pregnant (granted Judith has grown a lot while Maggie’s bump has grown barely at all).

At some point, we expect a baby bump and this poster would have been an opportune time to show it. Sadly, there is no bump, which makes us worry something tragic will occur with Maggie’s pregnancy. Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen!
