A key character’s death for The Walking Dead was just spoiled
A key character on The Walking Dead may face a grim end in season 9, if recently leaked news is to be believed.
Warning: Spoilers await below about a major death in season 9 of The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead‘s season 9 premiere is months away, but this summer has been a headline-heavy one for the show with beloved characters heading out and fans craving any details of what’s to come for those left behind.
Andrew Lincoln’s departure from the show has hit fans the hardest, with some even creating a petition for him to stay on the show. Lauren Cohan’s Maggie is also saying goodbye to the world of walkers, as she heads over to ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier.
With the grim and gritty world that is The Walking Dead, it makes sense that anyone’s exit will be less than pleasant. This isn’t a show where people ride off into the sunset; they get bit and die terrible deaths, sometimes leaving heartbreaking letters behind (R.I.P. Carl).
Thanks to fansite The Spoiling Dead, we have leaked news of a huge death that will take place during season 9.
Rick Grimes will not live past episode 5. Their spoilers read:
"We can now confirm that Rick Grimes’ story comes to an end in episode 5. He DOES die in that episode.Looking at all the recent photo evidence of the large herd and the leaked script page that was partially deciphered, we think it is safe to say that the herd plays a part in Rick’s death.Once more detailed information becomes available, we will update.Let the wailing and rending of garments commence."
This, along with a recently leaked page from the show’s script, reveal Rick’s demise early on in season 9. Per the script, fuzzy details seem to show Rick is taken out in a herd. Michonne tries to save him, but Maggie holds her back so she doesn’t get killed by the herd as well. There’s also a mention of a struggle to hear Shane in the script. TVLine recently reported that Jon Bernthal would return to The Walking Dead for season 9, but only to appear in one episode. Could this be that one episode?
Now, The Spoiling Dead has a decent history with leaks, famously holding onto info about Chandler Riggs’ death because they were contacted by the actor. As for the leaked script, it offers a few clues, but nothing we should strongly stand by.
Also, Rick’s death seems to come disturbingly early in a 16 episode season versus waiting till at least the midseason finale. Plus with news of a time jump and everyone trying to rebuild society and all that good stuff, a herd coming in and killing Rick seems — again — way too early.
With the next season being Andrew Lincoln’s swan song, we’d hope for a lot more than a mere five episodes to say goodbye to him.
