Walkers come into Our World with The Walking Dead’s new mobile game
The Walking Dead ventures into new gaming territory with The Walking Dead: Our World, bringing walkers into your own backyard (and more).
As The Walking Dead fans (me, included) commiserate over the loss of TV show favorites (adios Rick, adieu Maggie), a new game comes to the forefront that can hopefully placate us.
The Walking Dead: Our World dives into the world of augmented reality mobile gaming, offering players the ability to hunt walkers in real life (think Pokémon Go but swap Pikachu for a creepy undead person — Pika-braaains). With the success and hype of AR/location-based games, like Pokémon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, it makes sense AMC would go for this.
The Walking Dead: Our World describes itself as a game where you can “collect stashes, find missions and rescue survivors with other players.” Favorite characters from the series like Rick, Michonne, and Daryl are here to help. You can also team up with your friends to take part in weekly challenges.
Despite some promising aspects for a game, the teaser comes off as more of a cheesy party trick than something one would want to play for hours. Then again, it is hard to compare anything to Pokémon Go‘s viral release.
