19. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Alan Grant

Ellie Sattler is more important than just being the “friend or lover” to Alan Grant. She was a woman who wanted to learn and inspired an entire generation to go out and get degrees in botany. That being said, the relationship between her and Alan is quite interesting (and one of the reasons many fans don’t like Jurassic Park III).

They took quite some time to establish their relationship in the first movie, making it clear that Ellie wanted Alan to be okay with kids so that, in the future, they could start a family together. It humanized a good portion of the film and gave everyone something to fight for.

So when they are very clearly not together, it almost feels like we were robbed of the future we should have had with Alan and Ellie. Their relationship is nuanced, confusing, and very nurturing for the situations they find themselves in.

Not once does the stress of the situation lend to a screaming match, they just respect each other and their intellect and it balances out nicely throughout the series. Now, maybe we can get them in the next Jurassic World and maybe they can be back together? For old times sake?
