7. Raptors in the kitchen

The first time many of us watched that kitchen scene with the Velociraptor wasn’t fun. Not because it is a bad scene but rather the contrary. It’s perfect. Lex and Tim are eating when they realize Velociraptors have come into the welcome center. They’re hungry, too.

In order to hide, they run into the kitchen. The VelociraptorS pursue, and the kids have to find a way to get out alive. One of the greatest camera tricks comes from Lex trying to hide in a cupboard.

Her reflection is showing that if the Raptor runs straight ahead, it’ll run into her. Luckily, she’s just a reflection and it knocks one of the Raptors out while the kids trap the other in a freezer to get out of the room.

From what we had learned about Raptors throughout the movie, this scene is particularly frightening because we learned Raptors hunt as pack animals. The idea that these two kids had to fight against them was terrifying and interesting and it just makes for one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history. Because who doesn’t love a Raptor trying to figure out what a ladle is?
