Hustler: Awkwafina as Constance
Get the look: Heavy Crochet Dress with Statement Shoulders
The youngest and probably least familiar name — for most — of this cast, is Awkwafina. But her genius and charisma slap you in the face if you’ve seen Ocean’s 8, or Dude (Netflix), or listened to any of her music. If not, do yourself a favor and check out her flow here and here. YOU’RE WELCOME.
Awkwafina plays pickpocket Constance, who is recruited by Debbie for the heist while hustling people in a park. She is the one that literally lifts the $150 million necklace off of Daphne’s neck. While there’s an innocently humorous moment where Constance asks her new boss for a simple Metro card, I couldn’t help but think that it was a nod to Awkwafina’s “NYC Bitche$.”
A graduate of LaGuardia High School, where just about every celebrity and artist that you can think of has attended, is a sign that she has a bright career ahead of her. Next in her busy year will be Crazy Rich Asians. If the trailer is any indication, Awkwafina looks like she’ll be stealing every scene. That movie comes out on August 30, and I have a feeling it will be another super stylish one to dissect.
Constance’s gown at the Met Gala, designed by Jonathan Simkhai, was quite in juxtaposition with her typical clothing. We’ve found something that your closet didn’t know it needed, recalling the Met look’s high-end detailing, but with a street edge. As the dress’ brand name suggests: A Star is Born.
