5. Tom Riddle, Sr. from Harry Potter

This list just wouldn’t be complete without the man who spawned Lord Voldemort. I mean, his failure as a parent did result in the demise of countless muggles and mudbloods. While Voldemort is obviously the one primarily responsible for those things, you have to wonder whether he would have turned out so evil if he’d had a normal upbringing.

Instead, Voldemort grew up alone in an orphanage. His father kicked his mother to the curb as soon as he discovered she was a witch. We can understand his frustration at being tricked with a love potion. But given that he threw Merope on the streets and never bothered to find out if she was okay, we doubt he would have made a great father either way. He likely would have disowned his son at the first display of magical powers.

6. Vernon Dursley from Harry Potter

While parental neglect often negatively shapes children’s lives, spoiling them can have similar effects. Vernon Dursley is the perfect example of this, as raising Dudley is definitely not something he’ll ever receive a medal for.

By granting Dudley whatever he wanted for the entirety of his childhood, Vernon fed his son’s sense of entitlement and even risked his health at times. He taught Dudley to be a bully, just like him.

Add in the way Vernon treated Harry, and we can confirm that he is one of the worst fathers on this list. We’d rather send him a Howler or some jinxed parchment than a Father’s Day gift.
