Oprah Winfrey shares how she and Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mom, hung out before royal wedding
Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle’s mother hung out before the royal wedding. Oprah recently shared how the two spent time together.
The royal wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle was last month. Yet there is no sign of slowing down when it comes to new nuggets of information about the event, or what happened ahead of it.
One that’s a little surprising, but we love it anyway? Oprah Winfrey and Doria Ragland, Markle’s mother, hung out prior to the big day. Oh yes. The American media queen and the new Duchess of Sussex did some yoga and enjoyed kumquats.
Winfrey opened up about their time together to Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of her new series, Love Is ___. During the exclusive interview, Winfrey tossed aside rumors that she had Ragland over to sway her with gifts in hopes of attaining an interview.
"The story was that Meghan’s mom had come to my house and she left laden with gifts… You know what the gifts were? First of all, she’s great at yoga, so I said, ‘Bring your yoga mat and your sneaks in case we just want to do yoga on the lawn.’ So one of the bags was a yoga mat and the other was lunch."
Winfrey added that while Ragland was over, she mentioned she loved kumquats. Winfrey let her know she actually had kumquat tree. Thus, the two enjoyed some delicious kumquats and Ragland took some with her.
"For all of the people who said I am getting her gifts and I’m trying to bribe her for an interview — they were kumquats. If kumquats can get you an interview, I’m all for it!"
The Wrinkle in Time star would later attend the “transformative” royal wedding, along with celebrity friends of Markle’s such as Priyanka Chopra.
Winfrey expressed that the marriage of the two was a “cultural moment” the world witnessed. She added that:
"You could not be there or watching on television… and not feel that there was a shift that just happened in the middle of it."
