3. S1E8: Tyrion meets Shagga.

During the first season of Game of Thrones, Tyrion is taken captive by Catelyn Stark and kept as a prisoner in the Vale of Arryn. Thanks to Bronn, who defends him in a trial by combat, he narrowly escapes a fatal sentence for a crime he’s wrongly accused of.

When he and Bronn begin their journey back to King’s Landing, however, more danger awaits them. The Stone Crows, a mountain tribe that despises the lords and ladies of the Vale, ambush them with intent to kill.

Bronn is prepared to fight his way out of the situation, but Tyrion uses humor and wit to win the Stone Crows over. After making them laugh at his crude jokes, Tyrion persuades them to serve as an escort to the Lannister army. And when they get there, he promises them all the weapons they’ve ever wanted.

4. S2E4: Tyrion comes to Sansa’s rescue.

During Sansa’s captivity in King’s Landing, Tyrion is the only Lannister who offers her an ounce of kindness. But Tyrion’s most heroic moment occurs during the second season. Robb’s army has just slain Lannister forces, and Joffrey takes his anger out on Sansa.

Meryn Trant is eager to obey Joffrey’s orders to beat an innocent girl, but thankfully, Tyrion steps in. He demands to know “what kind of knight beats a helpless girl,” and he informs Joffrey that Sansa “does not fight her brother’s battles.” He proceeds to compare Joffrey to the Mad King.

Meryn scolds Tyrion for threatening the king, an accusation Tyrion waves off. Then he delivers one of his sassiest lines: “Bronn, the next time Ser Meryn speaks, kill him. That was a threat. See the difference?”

It’s a wonderful moment, with plenty of shade being thrown at our least favorite characters.
