Charlotte and Harry adopt Lily (“An American Girl in Paris: Part Deux”)

While Sex and the City is a show about love, sex, and friendship in New York, it still manages to make us cry sometimes. Dry your tears from the scene when Samantha cries at Miranda’s mom’s funeral, and get ready to cry again over this scene from the show’s series finale (although it’s hard to find online, we have put in a clip where we do get to see Lily).

It’s no secret that, throughout the series, Charlotte yearns to be a mother. All she wants out of life is to marry a nice man, live in a beautiful home, and raise a family. Unfortunately, we witness her struggle to land that perfect life.

When she finally bags a nice, wealthy doctor from a respectable family, Trey MacDougal, she thinks she’ll finally have it all. But it’s not so easy. The two are completely incompatible sexually and Trey struggles with impotence and erectile dysfunction, and they soon find out they’re not able to conceive a child.

Their sexual struggles, as well as Trey’s overbearing mother, lead to the couple’s divorce, which is when Charlotte meets Harry, a bald, overweight Jewish lawyer. He’s nothing like the men Charlotte has been with in the past, but he turns out to be the perfect man for her, and the two eventually get married.

Unfortunately for Charlotte, her fertility struggles didn’t end there. She tries every possible remedy, even IVF, but no baby. She and Harry turn to adoption, and at the end of the series finale, we discover they have the opportunity to adopt a beautiful baby girl from China.

As soon as Charlotte lays her eyes on the baby girl’s photo, she starts to cry and tells her husband “That’s our baby. I know it, that’s really our baby.” We want to cry just thinking about it, because as viewers, we all saw the maternal Charlotte struggle for years, and she finally gets her wish.
