3 ideas for Legally Blonde 3 (since Reese Witherspoon might return)

This all could fall through, but Elle Woods would not want us to be negative at the prospect of a Legally Blonde 3. Let’s talk ideas.

It legitimately pains us that the world has not had a new main Legally Blonde movie since 2003. Granted, there’s been a musical in that time (as well as, er, Legally Blondes), but let’s face it: we might need Elle Woods now more than ever.

So when Deadline reported earlier today that Reese Witherspoon might very well come back to the franchise for a third film, after of course expressing our excitement, we sat down to think about what we’d like to see in Legally Blonde 3.

What better number of things than three?

Elle and Emmett still happily married

Towards the end of Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde, Elle and Emmett do finally get married. Although it might be easy to write Emmett’s character out, saying that he died or otherwise got divorced from Elle, it also seems like the best way to show a continuation of Elle’s story is to show that she’s made it work with him — even though they have different styles and approaches.

How can you show Elle saying she knows just the place to live while she heads past the White House and then not have her either run for president or just simply be the president? Sure, it might feel a little unsurprising after 2016’s election, but hey, this is a woman who decides she’s going to go to law school and then gets a ridiculously high score on her LSAT, then decides that she’s going to save her dog’s mother and gets animal testing banned.

What we’re saying is we do not doubt the power of Elle to get herself elected at all.

More Delta Nu connections

In both movies, the sisters of Delta Nu end up helping Elle — whether it’s studying for her LSATs or working on a discharge petition — and sisters helping sisters sounds like the perfect plot point to reintroduce in a third movie. It’s that simple.

Can you imagine the kinds of actresses who could play a fellow Delta Nu willing to help Elle to the top? What about an all Delta Nu presidential ticket?
