Get the Look: Light Purple Choker Dress

One of the standouts of the Met Gala, Priyanka Chopra was not only on our best-dressed list, but also a highly anticipated royal wedding arrival. And she most certainly did not disappoint. Though there have been discussions around what some believe would have been most appropriate for her to wear as an Indian woman, there is no denying that she looks smashing in this lilac skirt suit by the incomparable Vivienne Westwood. A matching Philip Treacy hat added even more drama to the look.

Priyanka Chopra’s outfit was a muted version of 2018 Pantone color of the year Ultra Violet, a shade of purple. It’s on trend for sure, but purple has also long been associated with royalty. This was initially based on the fact that the dye was very expensive, and only those of a certain status could afford it. But during Queen Elizabeth I’s reign, it was actually forbidden for anyone other than royalty to wear the color. We’re delighted to see that is no longer enforced.

If you’re interested in being a bit unexpected, like Priyanka, do it with an awesomely avant-garde, structural frock. Part rule-breaker, part conformist, you’ll have the best of both worlds.
