Kumail Nanjiani

We literally had to triple confirm that Kumail didn’t already have a special on Netflix. He wrote and starred in one of the best movies of last year, The Big Sick and is on the HBO hit Silicon Valley. He also did an amazing job hosting Saturday Night Live this year and overall, has had a ton of success.

If you look closely, Kumail has a guest role in almost every comedy film made in the last five years.  Okay, yes we may be exaggerating but sometimes it feels that way.  In 2017, he and his wife co-wrote the movie The Big Sick, which he also starred in. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay.

Besides all the success, Kumail has always been a supporter of up and coming comedians. For years Kumail, alongside Jonah Ray, hosted and produced Los Angeles’ premier live comedy show, The Meltdown. Getting a spot on Meltdown would boost a comics career. It’s rare for a live show to pull as much weight as a television credit, but Meltdown had prestige. Eventually, Meltdown was picked up by Comedy Central as a television show which featured the sets of up and coming stand-ups. When The Meltdown eventually ended, the whole L.A. comedy scene felt it’s loss. The show will go down in Los Angeles comedy history.

One last thing, Kumail was a judge on season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. That appearance alone should get him a special!
