The Infinity Gauntlet totally messed up Thanos after the you-know-what

The writers of Avengers: Infinity War revealed that using the Infinity Gauntlet did hurt Thanos; they say he’s the only one powerful enough to withstand the damage.

If you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War, and you certainly should have to understand what we’re talking about, you know Thanos was a very, very bad guy. Many of us were expecting the Avengers to pull through in the end and stop him from making that formidable snap. But he did it anyway.

Of course, we want Thanos to pay for that. And Infinity Wars writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely confirmed he kind of did.

Some might recall in the final scene of Infinity War, where Thanos sits to watch the sunrise, the arm that wielded the Infinity Gauntlet looks a little messed up. It might be hard to notice at first, as noted by Collider’s Steve Weintraub when speaking to Markus and McFeely, but it’s certainly meant to show Thanos took some damage.

“That’s an immense amount of energy,” Markus said. “And it’s the reason why other people haven’t done this because, I think, it’ll kill you. So the strongest guy in the universe has to be the one to do it.”

McFeely added: “It’s a believability thing. We always try to ground this stuff.”

In a way, it does make sense that after using the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos was hurt somehow. We don’t see him crying buckets over how bad the pain was, though. (I mean, he took an ax to the chest, so he’s got a pretty high pain tolerance.) But at least we know it did something.

Following that, the two were asked if that meant Thanos now had a bit of vulnerability to him. Markus and McFeely pretty much danced around the question. Though McFeely did say that because Thanos got the Infinity Stones, he’s got an extra layer of strength and power.

So it seems pretty unlikely that the snap alone would be enough to let the Avengers take down Thanos.

So while the snap didn’t necessarily render Thanos powerless, the Avengers will come around to figuring out the best way to defeat Thanos in the next movie, especially with the other characters to come. And if Thor is the one to try to defeat him again, let’s make sure he aims for the head.
