This week on AMC’s the Terror, the aftermath of the recent bloodbath and splintering loyalties will determine who lives to see the finale.

Things are not looking good for our intrepid explorers on AMC’s The Terror. Well, they haven’t been looking good from the title card of episode 1, but at this point the midden is really hitting the boat propeller.

The previous episode “Terror Camp Clear” revealed that the harsh environment and Tuunbaq aren’t the only things Crozier’s men have to contend with. Divisions within the men as a result of Hickey’s murderous machinations split the men’s loyalty in two. Crozier’s attempts to quell the mutiny by hanging Hickey and Irving might have been successful if Tuunbaq hadn’t then made its dramatic entrance.

The episode ended with a literal bang, with Fitzjames turning some fireworks into a makeshift 19th-century rocket launcher and shooting Tuunbaq right in the face. Or, at least, the shoulder-region. We’ll give it to him, though; I can’t imagine that thing was easy to aim.

Now, in “The C, The C, The Open C”, the men are in more peril than ever — outside of the protection of their ships, split into two opposing factions, starving and freezing and pursued by Tuunbaq.

Here’s the official episode summary from AMC:

"While hope comes in strange forms, the question of what the men are willing to do to survive begins to be settled in both noble and horrifying ways."

Hard to imagine what kind of hope our characters might stumble across at this point. But as for what the men might be willing to do to survive — well, if you’re familiar with the evidence collected after the Terror and Erebus disappeared, you probably can guess what that means.

In a show with only a single 10-episode season, the penultimate episode is bound to be intense; let alone a show which basically told its viewers from the very beginning that things aren’t going to end well.  But if there’s one thing The Terror has perfected, it’s making us desperate to know exactly how it’s all going to go wrong.
