CW confirms Legacies as the upcoming The Originals spin-off

CW confirms Legacies, the new The Vampire Diaries / The Originals universe spin-off. The Salvatore School for supernatural misfits is officially open for business.

CW has officially given a series order to Legacies, which comes from executive producers Julie Plec, Brett Matthews, Leslie Morgenstein, and Gina Girolamo. CW also recently confirmed the reboot series of Charmed and Roswell.

Plec confirmed on Twitter that Legacies will feature a time jump, so even those not up to date with The Vampire Diaries / The Originals universe will be able to dive right in. Legacies will center on Hope Mikaelson, the teenage tribrid (witch-wolf-vampire) daughter of Hayley Marshall-Kenner and Niklaus Mikaelson.

In the finale of The Vampire Diaries, Alaric Saltzman and Caroline Forbes established the “Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted,” assisted by a most impressive donation from Klaus Mikaelson. Currently in The Originals, Hope resides at the school in Mystic Falls, along with Alaric and his twin daughters, Lizzie and Josie. While neither Lizzie nor Josie have featured in The Originals, Lizzie has been mentioned a few times and sounds like quite the mischief maker.

Danielle Rose Russell will continue her role as Hope Mikaelson from The Originals season 5. Matt Davis will reprise his role as the Indiana Jones-style professor Alaric Saltzman from The Vampire Diaries. Alaric will be reintroduced in The Originals towards the end of this last season.

Alaric will have his work cut out for him without Hayley, Caroline or Klaus to assist with the parenting of these supernatural teens. Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Jenny Boyd and Aria Shahghasemi will join Danielle Rose Russell as Legacies’ new generation of vampires, witches, werewolves.

"Continuing the tradition of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, the story of the next generation of supernatural beings at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter, 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson; Alaric Saltzman’s twins, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman; and other young adults come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves…in spite of their worst impulses. Will these young witches, vampires and werewolves become the heroes they want to be – or the villains they were born to be?"
