Danai Gurira wants an all-female Avengers movie just as much as we do

On Ellen, Marvel’s Danai Gurira addressed the rumors surrounding fans’ calls for an all-female Avengers movie. Though it’s not in the works now, she certainly wants one.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has come a long way from its days of having tons of male characters on screen with Black Widow and Pepper Potts sprinkled in.

Now, with countless other female characters like Scarlet Witch, Valkyrie and pretty much everyone in Black Panther, fans want to take things to the next level by having an all-female Avengers movie.

Thankfully, they aren’t alone in their rallying cries. General Okoye herself is definitely down for an all-female movie.

Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, appeared on Ellen to talk about the upcoming Avengers movie. When Ellen asked her about the all-female movie rumors, Gurira confirmed that it’s just a rumor for now. However, she was glad ” that there’s this hunger for that type of thing.”

The Marvel and Walking Dead star also commented on Brie Larson’s upcoming Captain Marvel movie, which would be another superheroine to add to their cast list.

“I know that the awesome Brie Larson is filming Captain Marvel as we speak, so these things are starting to happen,” Gurira said about the movie. “And I think it’s really exciting because it’s showing that yeah, of course, it’s time we start seeing the perspective of a story come exclusively from women.”

If Gurira couldn’t be any more correct, she closed by adding: “I mean, magic happens when women do their thang! You know what I’m saying?”

We totally know what she’s saying. We know that Iron Man, Tony Stark and Thor like to take the lead sometimes. Buuut they can sit back and let the ladies handle things for once.

Look at how brilliantly things got done in Black Panther when Okoye, Shuri, Nakia and Romonda helped out. It’s almost as if T’Challa didn’t need to be in the movie at all (even though we loved every moment of him).

So if Kevin Feige is on the fence about making this kind of movie, let Gurira’s voice be the final decision. Ghostbusters and Oceans 8 have already sparked the trend, so why not do the right thing?
