Moira and Luke

Moira is lucky, or about as lucky as one can get in Gilead. During season 1, she escapes north to Canada and reunites with June’s husband, Nick, in safety. At the end of the season, the two live in a camp where they are provided with basic necessities and can rest, momentarily, knowing they will not be dragged off to Gilead.

But there’s no way we’re just going to leave them there in the snow. Moira and Luke have been visible in the trailers for season 2, participating in protests. This could mean we’re in for more flashbacks showing how Gilead was formed, or it could mean that there will be unrest on their side of the border. While they are safe for now, conditions for refugees aren’t fabulous, and more are coming every day.

Regardless, we know that Moira and Luke will not sit idle in Ontario forever. They both care deeply about June, and Luke still has a daughter, Hannah, who is still alive in Gilead as well. Their efforts may very well lead them back into Gilead to rescue them, or they may begin their part of the difficult work on the north side of the border. Moira especially was heavily involved in protests and politics when unrest broke out in the United States. Her fire seems to have been restored by June’s resistance and the plight of her friend. With her newfound fury, she could be a powerful catalyst for change and rescue as Gilead begins to fall apart.

To Luke, the knowledge that June is even still alive is relatively new. Toward the end of season 1, he at last received communication that there was hope for his wife, including a message from her. With both sides working toward reunion and freedom, Luke may finally feel some of that fire that originally drove June and Moira to fight back, too.
