The Brightsiders – Jen Wilde
From the author of Queens of Geek, The Brightsiders is another young adult novel with a diverse cast and unique narrative. Following Emmy King, a teenage drummer facing a negative press scandal, The Brightsiders dives into the darker side of fame. It also takes a deeper look at the culture surrounding stardom and the consequences that accompany such a public lifestyle.
According to the Goodreads synopsis, Emmy struggles to maintain her personal well-being and public image after a bout of partying lands her in a hospital bed. While attempting to restore her life and career, she also begins a romantic relationship with one of her bandmates.
And though her romance with Alfie could be just what Emmy needs to move on from all the scandals, it could also herald the start of another. As the paparazzi close in, it looks like she’ll need to make the choice between herself and her celebrity image. Or is it possible to appease both?
The Brightsiders will be available to purchase on May 22. If it’s even half as entertaining as Wilde’s last novel, it will definitely be worth picking up. And that gorgeous cover is sure to look fabulous against the sea and sand.
