We Regret to Inform You – A.E. Kaplan
A.E. Kaplan’s We Regret to Inform You has yet to receive the hype it likely deserves, but I suppose we are still several months away from publication. This young adult novel offers a much needed commentary on the college admissions process, an undertaking that is surprisingly absent from the majority of young adult stories.
The synopsis reveals that the story follows Mischa Abramavicius, a high school senior who considers herself remarkably well-rounded. That is, until she receives rejection letters from basically every college that she applied to. As you can imagine, this causes her a great deal of anxiety as she begins to panic at the prospect of her “uncertain future.”
Wisdom from her friend Nate and assistance from a tech group known as “The Ophelia Syndicate” send her spiraling into an investigation of the schools. And the things Mischa finds will evidently “shake the quiet community of Blanchard Prep to its stately brick foundations.”
This novel is a perfect summer read for juniors and seniors about to undergo the college applications process, though readers of any age will likely relate to the striking accuracy of the criticisms this book holds. The official release is scheduled for August 21.
