5. Lucy Liu

Oh, look, another actress who Hollywood should use more. She stars on Elementary, which picked up an additional eight-episode order to premiere later in April and will appear in Future World. However, Liu has never been a lead in a big blockbuster film or earned the recognition she really deserves.

After watching Charlie’s Angels, it’s hard to figure out why. Because, obviously, Charlie’s Angels is a comedy, but we should take the stunts and ideas behind them seriously. As far as being a super-sleuth, that’s something Liu appears to very good at. As demonstrated by the show, she can play a genius without sacrificing the warmth or appearing too overconfident. Characters like Doctor Strange and Tony Stark, although funny, become grating after a while because their arrogance is just too much.

Lucky for us, Liu’s characters never come across that way. Even in Kill Bill, where she played the villain, the role still felt accessible because we come to understand the character’s motivations.

If Liu can do that with O-Ren Ishii, she can do anything with a superhero.
