Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Through the fire

Game of Thrones season 8 could set an iconic location aflame if new rumors and spoilers are correct, but will it actually happen?

Warning: You know what our favorite words are on a dreary Monday? They’re pretty simple: Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers.

Throughout the production of Game of Thrones season 8, what’s happening at King’s Landing has remained mostly a mystery. We know Cersei Lannister meets Jon Snow there at some point. Additionally, word has it that part of the city will burn, and that’s why there’s a set at Titanic Studios (for some controlled practical effects, one supposes). It’s that latter piece of information that concerns us today. Watchers on the Wall, via A Red Priestess on Twitter, reports that the set now includes the Red Keep.

From the beginning, we here at Culturess have suspected that any large-scale destruction of King’s Landing was likely to include at least some damage to the Red Keep. While WOTW focuses more on which part of the city this is, we’re more interested in guessing whether or not this will mean that the entire keep will be destroyed.

Word has it that it’s a dragon that will cause the damage to King’s Landing, as we’ve previously noted. So, let’s take a moment and think about the symbolism of this. After all, the Red Keep dates back to the earliest days of the old Targaryen dynasty.

Throughout her journey on the series, Daenerys has made it clear that one of her key goals is to be different than her predecessors — “break the wheel” and all. For her to damage or even destroy perhaps the second largest symbol of her family’s legacy in Westeros (after the Iron Throne, of course) would be a big signal that the old ways won’t have the same prominence under a putative Daenerys Targaryen reign.

Besides all that, though, it would just look ridiculous, and that’s what we expect of the final season of Game of Thrones.

What do you think? Will the show actually destroy the Red Keep?
